Some Coolpix cameras allow a function where an image can be marked
for Printing.
This note explains the standard (DPOF) behind this function.
Please note that Nikon cannot answer further questions on the DPOF
format. Many of the possibilities of DPOF (particularly 1.10)
specification are provided speculatively for future systems and
services.
DPOF - Digital Print
Order Format
The DPOF format will record information allowing images
captured by digital cameras to be automatically printed through
photofinishing print services or home printers, functioning as a kind
of digital "order envelope." Users of digital cameras
will be able to select the photos they want printed directly in the
camera without using a computer. The DPOF file is written to the
camera's removable media (such as CompactFlash™ , SmartMedia™ ,
and floppy disk) and this information is read by home printers,
photofinishing services and software applications.
DPOF v1.00 supported features
(1). Selection of which photos to print
You can specify the image and the number
of prints while checking the images on digital cameras.
(2) Electronic print order process
Since the necessary information is stored
automatically in the storage device, you do not need to check the file
names and paths of images to be printed. Your digital camera shows the
preview of the images, even complicated printing like cropping, adding
a caption, etc.. Thanks to this function, your printer
does not need a preview function, you can make prints without mistake.
DPOF v1.10 supported features (release

Version 1.00, and a variety of DPOF products such as digital cameras
