3. A table to show how many pictures can be stored on a CompactFlash card

The table below shows how many images can be stored on an 8MB CompactFlash card at each resolution and qualit setting for all Nikon Digital Cameras.

To calculate the number of images in a higher capacity card, simply calculate how many time larger the card is by dividing its storage size by 8, and then multiply the given number in the table by this figure.

This table also shows how many pixels are available at each resolution for every camera.

Notes:

  1. Figures in red are image file sizes where one or no images can be stored on an 8MB card.
  2. Number are approximate as JPEG compression produces files of variable size, dependant on the amount of detail in each image.
  3. The maximum capacity is limited by the fact that the cards are formatted in FAT 16 and that there can be a maximum of 9,999 images in 9,999 folder per card
