Alkaline batteries are the most commonly available battery type and are suitable for
use with your Coolpix Camera. However, since they are not optimised for high-current
devices, their lifetime cannot be expected to exceed more than about one hour, depending
on manufaturer, type and useage.
For maxiumum battery life, Nikon suggests using high-capacity battery types such as
Lithium or Nickel Metal Hydride.
Maximising Battery Life
Here are a few things that you can do to ensure that you get the most life from the
batteries that you choose to use on your digital camera:
- Turn the TFT monitor display off. The display consumes the majority of the camera's
total power demand..
- Use the optional AC adapter when downloading images, when using the slide show function
or when reviewing images.
- If your batteries seem to be exhausted, try turning the camera off for a few minutes and
warming them up gently, for example in an inside pocket. This may give give enough extra
power for a few more pictures with the TFT display off.
- In the shooting menu, (M-REC mode Shooting Menu:Setup:LCD ON/OFF) there are five options
for the control of the TFT monitor display power management. The list below shows them in
order of highest to lowest power consumption:
- Monitor On-Continuous Autofocus. This selection is not available on all cameras,
but is the default setting on the E-950 and E-800 models.
- Monitor On-Single AutoFocus. Focus only when shutter is half-pressed. This is the
factory default on the E-700.
- Monitor On - Review off. The monitor is always on, showing the image through the
viewfinder (like a camcorder).
- Monitor Off-Review on. The monitor is off, but comes on for 10 seconds after the picture
is taken to allow confirm or delete.
- Monitor Off-Review off. The monitor remains off at all times.
