Introduction
Every photographer knows that obtaining the correct exposure is one of the most
important parts of the process called "photography". When setting exposure it is
important to understand the impression that a particular image is inended to give to the
viewer. In certain cases, areas of the image may need to be over- or under-exposed to
convey a certain mood or accentuate a particular detail, wheras in other situations it may
be inportant for the overall image to look natural, even though the local lighting
conditions makes this difficult or even impossible to acheive with a film camera.
When set to A Rec mode, the Coolpix E-900, E-700 and E-950 cameras all manage to
acheive a remarkably even and pleasing result in all kinds of lighting conditions.
However, it is possible, by using the features of the M Rec mode to make fine
adjustment to the final image that the camera produces and to thereby control the emphasis
and emotion that the lighting conveys. The Coolpix E-950 and E-700 offer four controls
which affect the exposure setting of the camera (the E-900 has two): this document
explains their effect and gives advice on how to use them.
