2. Using the ES-E28 with the Coolpix 4500 camera.

The Coolpix 4500 has a setting specific for using the ES-E28 slide copy adapter; available from the 'lens' menu. When this setting has been selected the user has two options; Positive or Inverse colour (negative) film. (Image 1)

Image 1. Coolpix 4500 slide copy adapter options menu.

Upon selecting the slide copy adapter the macro setting is automatically selected and the speedlight is switched OFF, the zoom function of the camera can still be operated by the user to allow fine adjustments to the framing of the slide/ negative.
A White Balance reading should first be made from a blank/ left over frame of the exposed negative strip using the same light source that the copy is to produced. Refer to the cameras instruction manual regarding Preset White Balance.
To use the Inverse colour setting a bright light source is required. If lighting is insufficient the image in the monitor will appear too bright and the effect of 'noise' may appear in the monitor. Should the 'noise' be visible on the cameras monitor, set image sharpening to OFF or LOW to reduce the effects. When Inverse colour, the setting for negative film, has been selected the camera adjusts the colour so the image can be viewed as if it had been processed. (This is intended for examining negative images in the cameras LCD monitor only.)

Image 2. Inverse colour selected, adjustments shown on monitor screen.

The settings that have been selected automatically, are shown on the cameras monitor, as well as user selected adjustments. (Image 2)

2. Flash cancelled.
3. Exposure compensation adjusted to +1.3.
4. Less contrast.

Adjustments can be made, by the user, to the zoom range and also to the exposure compensation. Test images can be taken with adjustments being made until a satisfactory image has been produced.

(Due to differences in film manufactures and film type, the quality of image produced will vary widely. It is recommended that the use of a film scanner such as the Nikon Coolscan is used to obtain high-quality digital images from negative film).
