5. Transfer Options when using Nikon View 5.0.0 and View 5.0.1.

When the Coolpix 2500 has been updated to firmware version 1.1 the following information is relevant.
For details on the firmware update view: Release note for Firmware update version 1.1 for the Coolpix 2500.

1. Some of the functions of Nikon View can cause modifications to the supplementary information (not the actual picture) held within each picture file that your camera produces.

2. Data which may be affected include:

2.1 The set up and exposure configurations of the camera at the time when the picture was taken.
2.2 The large-size thumbnail that is used by Nikon View to show the image in greater detail in the Browser. 2.3 The data used by some printers to fine-tune colour when printing directly from a CF card and not via a computer.

In no case is the actual image data affected.

3. Should you wish to retain this data, you may take the following measures:

3.1 Do not select the "Add additional information" box in the Transfer Options dialogue. (Image 1.) This will prevent the direct printing data from being lost. If you do not print directly from the camera and do not make use of the so-called Exif print feature of certain printers then this issue is not relevant.

Image 1.

If you wish to view camera shooting data in the so-called IPTC data area, that is held within the image, then leave this box checked.. (See the Nikon View manual and the web resource for more information about IPTC ). Data maybe lost, however, if the description that can also added at this point exceeds the maximum number of characters that can be stored in the IPTC area. If you wish to retain the shooting data in the so called EXIF area, then uncheck the box, as writing IPTC data may overwrite the EXIF data.

3.2 Do not rotate the image using the Rotate command in Nikon View. This
will avoid deleting the high resolution thumbnail that is held in the image file. However, even if this data is lost, Nikon View can regenerate it from the main image by a choice in the Preferences menu of Nikon View.
