22 Swapping over from Adaptec 8920 / 8945 to OHCI Firewire (1394) interface cards.

There are two types of interface card which can be used with the D-1 1394 / Firewire interface. The two types of card use different software "layers" as an interface between the Operating System and the Application (Nikon View or Nikon Capture).

The two software layers are called : OHCI and PAPI.

PAPI is used in the Adaptec Hot Connect range and OHCI is used in virtually all other types of card (there are some other Firewire cards which use a proprietary software interface: these cards are usually designed for use with professional motion video capture applications).

If you have installed an Adaptec Hot connect card on your Windows PC and wish to change over to and OHCI card, as well as de-installing the Hot Connect software, it is necessary to change the name of the ".inf" file which controls the registration of the interface card as a "new hardware device".

Locate the file 1394.w98 and rename it to 1394.inf. This file is usually located in the \windows\inf folder.
Restart your computer and allow it to recognise the OHCI Firewire card.  Then connect the D-1 when the operating system has loaded. Remember to have your Nikon software CD handy.
