13. Deleting folders created on the Camera

The D-1 is able to create multiple folders on a CF card to allow images to be conveniently organised into groups.

Folders are created from the camera menu, and have the format 100NC_D1, 101NC_D1 etc.
The camera always shoots into the most recently created folder.

The normal way to delete folders is by formatting the card in the camera.
However if Custom Setting 29 has been set to 1, then the folders are not erased, either after formatting in the camera, or even after formatting on a computer.

The folders will still exist, even if they appear to have been erased when viewing the contents of the CF card on your computer. In this case, when you return the CF card to the camera, the new images are stored in the last created folder, which reappears.

If you have created multiple folders on your CF card, and want to fully erase all folders, please set custom setting 29 to 0 and format the card in the camera.

Notes:

About Custom Setting 29

Custom Setting 29 , if set to option 1, forces the camera to  create files in a continuous sequence without resetting the filename to DSC_0001.JPG each time a new CF card is inserted. This is very useful if you are taking many photographs on multiple cards as it ensures that all filenames are unique.

Removing the battery whilst the camera is on causes a new folder to be created.

If the battery is removed without the camera being switched off, the system within the camera that detects the presence CF cards thinks that a new card has been inserted and creates a new folder when it is switched on again. To avoid the camera creating folders by itself, this please switch the camera off before re-inserting the battery. Noe that this only happens if custom setting 29 is set to 1.
